The woman taken
from the bed,
clutched the robe about the flesh
that weighed her down.
All passion
was dissolved away
with fear and shame.
She was uncertain
whether to protect herself from eye or stone.
The cruel light
had burned away
the darkness
that had blinded her.
The solidness of desire
was shattered by a step at
the door,
the stare of interest and anger
and surprise.
Only He could build a wall around her.
